[URGENT] I Water-damaged My Cellphone, and I Need Some Questions Answered?

OK, so I recently spilled water on my cellphone, and the battery seems to be dead.
Here are a few facts about me:
– My phone is a Motorola-brand phone, and it was a FREE PHONE.
– I have insurance for this.
– I AM A VERIZON WIRELESS CUSTOMER.
So here are some questions:
1. I have been looking forward to getting a new phone, as this one is very slow. Can I simply report it as “lost” and suspend this cellphone, and get a better phone like LG Dare on eBay and still continue the same contract?
2. Does replacing my cellphone (which was free) cost anything EVEN WITH MY INSURANCE? If so, about how much?
3. IF I want to keep this phone, how much will fixing this water-damaged cellphone cost?
Thank you so much!

if the phone is on warranty then they will send you another phone free (assuming they still sell it).
also i would try and let the water dry out of the phone for like a day or so. ive heard that once it evaporates it can work again

u can accually fix ur water damage easly!
just take a hair blower and blow dry it for a fewminutes!

    also,
to replace it it will cost 50 dollars
inless ur insurance covers water damage then its free
if it doesnt cover water damage its cheaper to buy a memory card(about 15 dollars) and borrow a battery from the store and transfer the info to ur memory card
but it would be cheaper to get another free phone

    and idk about #1

Okay first- Reporting it as lost won’t work because they need proof. If you attempt to show them your broken phone there is a little color pad in your phone and if it gets wet insurance wont do anything because it will appear a darker color if wet.
Second-Yes it will cost something because insurance isn’t going to do anything because it is water damages. The price will be the same as a regular phone.
Third-Online you might be able to get a new battery. Most likely the phone is damaged too so it would be best just to get a new phone.
    Hope I helped
    Sincerely,
    Jake

I don’t think you should report it as lost. One it isn’t really ethical, even though people probably do it all the time. And two if you say it is lost the only thing they will do for you is send you the same or similar phone using your insurance. So yes you can purchase a new phone off ebay but telling them it is lost does nothing because they don’t care, haha.

If you have insurance you can just tell them and they will send you a new one. I am pretty sure it will cost $50 to get a new one and you can only get two new ones per calendar year. So it will still cost something even though your other one was free (it was only free because of the contract & if you bought it outright it would have cost you something).

You may want to go into the store and have them look at it. IF it is the battery you could buy a new battery. A way to check this is either 1. ask someone else who has the same phone/battery to use theirs in your phone or 2. maybe they will do it at the store if you ask them and then you can buy a new battery. I am not sure what phone you have so the battery may be more or less than the cost of replacing the phone with insurance.

Another thing to think about, are you close to being able to upgrade? My sister just had to replace her phone with insurance and the next day she got a letter from verizon saying they were letting her upgrade her phone earlier than they previously said. So you may be able to go into the store or talk to someone on the phone to see if you are eligible for that.

So really it will cost you $50 to have it replaced or you could buy one you want off ebay and just go into the store and have them activate that phone which may be your best option since you are wanting a new one anyway.

    1) If you plan on getting a new phone, you don’t have to report it as lost or even suspend it. You can purchase a phone on eBay and activate it on your account. Just be careful because often times phones sold on eBay are water damaged themselves, or lost or stolen. Verizon can keep track of which phones are damaged, lost, or stolen, and can reprimand the phone upon request. You can also activate an old phone you might have at home, or get from a friend. Also, make sure to check with Verizon if your eligible for an upgrade.

    2) Yes, replacing a cell phone will cost you a $50 dollar deductible through the insurance company. You can do so by going to http://www.phoneclaim.com (affiliate of Verizon).

    3) There is no option to fix a water damaged phone. Once a phone comes in contact with liquid, it’s pretty much permanently damaged, even if it comes to work temporarily for you. If the battery is the only thing that’s damaged, you can purchase a new battery and that might solve the issue. Sometimes, you can even blow dry your cell phone and battery or store it in a pot of uncooked rice for a few days as a loose alternative. This might help your phone work for the basic, most necessary features until you are able to replace it.

    Hope this helps.

If you report it as lost/stolen, you have to pay your deductible (maybe $50) & you’ll get the same phone thru your insurance. Most of the time, you can only get 2 replacement phones thru your insurance in a calendar year – if you want a new model cell, if you’ve had your contact for a year or 2, you’ll be eligible for discounts on a new 1, DON’T report the old phone lost/stolen/broken, whatever to the insurance company if you’re gonna get a new phone, the insurance company WON’T give you a DIFFERENT model phone, LET ALONE a different color (unless they don’t have your original color in stock). You have to Buy a new model phone yourself, and if your contract is under a year, then you will have to pay full price for a new model phone. If you don’t have enough for that now, I’d recimmend calling your insurance & reporting your cell lost & paying the Deductibke to get a replacement phone until you’re eligible for a discount – I’d call your cell phone company to find out. If you tell your cell phone insurance company that your phone got water damage, they’re gonna tell you that that’s nit covered & then you’re gonna have to Buy a new phone. Good Luck!

A liquid damaged cell phone must be cleaned inside before being dried. Corrosion is ugly stuff, it becomes rust. Think of it like cancer, eating at your phone guts. Take it to a local cellphone repair shop and have them do a thorough cleaning inside the phone. http://www.onsitecelluarrepair.com
